City commission says no to proposed 31-foot tall cell network antennas on North Shore
The Pittsburgh Art Commission said no to Crown Castle’s proposal for cellular network antennas on the North Side that would raise several telephone poles to 31 feet – a project that attracted opposition from the mayor’s office. Crown Castle proposed the small cells for nine locations on the North Shore between PNC Park and the Rivers Casino. Paul Gilbert, manager at the company’s Canonsburg office, told commissioners that the height "optimizes the way that network is designed. If we get any lower, performance declines." Gilbert also said the height sets the stage for the forthcoming 5G network.
