In its Dec. 18 meeting, Gaithersburg Mayor and City Council approved the introduction of amendments to regulations adopted in Decemeber 2017 that govern the installation of small cell technology within city rights-of-ways. Staff proposed these amendments in response to the new FCC ruling that affects the city’s right to regulate small cell facilities in the ROW, as well as requests from the industry, notably Crown Castle and AT&T, for reevaluation of city regulations. These proposed amendments will be the subject of a public hearing on Monday, Jan. 7. The city has until April 15, 2019 to address "aesthetic" concerns governing small cell facilities installed in its rights-of-way.
