Why Myrtle Beach needs more wireless infrastructure.
One of the most popular coastal resort towns in the country, Myrtle Beach is more than just a great place to soak up some sun. Its metropolitan area, home to nearly 270,000 people, is also a world-class corporate hub for the aerospace, IT and manufacturing industries—and its “pro-business” atmosphere is ideal for its startup community. It also receives an enviable number of tourists to attractions such as the Carolina Opry, the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, Hard Rock Park and more than 250 golf courses during every season of the year.
Fast, reliable wireless connectivity is essential for Myrtle Beach’s residents, businesspeople, and visitors alike—and here, the demand for mobile data is rising exponentially. A reliable mobile network is especially important for public safety, as, in many areas, 80 percent of all emergency calls to police, firefighters and other first responders are made on mobile devices. Small cell solutions, or “small cells,” can provide a simple, effective foundation for upgrading Myrtle Beach’s wireless infrastructure, alleviating gaps in coverage and capacity and serving as a complement to cell towers and other wireless infrastructure.

Where we're installing small cells.
Small cells are installed in the right of way, often on infrastructure like street signs, utility poles and streetlights. You may have walked by them before without noticing them. Working in partnership with city staff, we plan to enable improved wireless provider service while keeping Myrtle Beach's character intact.
