Why Somerville needs more wireless infrastructure.
Somerville, Massachusetts is a vibrant community northwest of Boston filled with families, artists and students. Somerville’s rich cultural scene and fun neighborhoods, combined with its easy access to downtown Boston, makes it a great place to live, work and play.
With its charming neighborhoods, myriad of restaurants, arts scene and proximity to highways and public transit, Somerville has become the most densely populated city in New England – making wireless connectivity even more critical. Small cell solutions, or “small cells,” are a key component of fast, reliable wireless connectivity. Small cells are often used to complement existing wireless infrastructure, such as towers, to add much-needed capacity in highly-populated areas like Somerville.

Where we've installed small cells.
Small cells are installed in the right of way, often on infrastructure like street signs, utility poles and streetlights. You may have walked by them before without noticing them. Working in partnership with city staff, we enabled improved wireless provider service while keeping Somerville's character intact.
