Officials in Lauderdale County, AL are ramping up efforts to bring broadband access to more households. The county commission has set up a contract with Connected Nation to help develop a plan for access. A number of officials spoke on the issue, including County Commissioner Brad Holmes, who said the lack of broadband access is a major issue in rural areas, and County Commission Chairman Danny Pettus who said broadband access "has reached the point where it is a household essential." Meanwhile, Lauderdale County School Superintendent Jon Hatton said, "…the ability to connect is the wave of the future for our children."
